Considering how much money superhero movies rake in, it’s clear we’ve all become infatuated with our heroic idols. But did you know that from the early days of comics, superheroes have been devouring pizza like the rest of us? It’s true, they salivate over a piping hot pizza like me and you.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
You really don’t have to look much further than The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. From the comics to the animated TV show to the blockbuster movies, these butt-kicking turtles consume more pizza than anyone else on our list.
Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael are, by far, the most creative when it comes to their favorite toppings. One episode of the cartoon show saw the brothers order a jelly bean and sausage topped pie. While we try not to judge anyone based on their topping preferences, we have to admit that it’s a little out there. In the same episode, even Master Splinter didn’t approve of this one.
Deadpool
Alright, so maybe his favorite food is a hot chimichanga. You got us. But he also loves pizza. There’s a whole pizza delivery scene in the 2016 movie and that scene is pulled directly from the 2008 Deadpool #10 comic. In that issue, Wade Wilson reveals his favorite pizza has pineapple and olive toppings and a burnt crust.
If you want further evidence, on more than one occasion he is even referenced as pizza face (although that may be more related to his scars than his love for our favorite delicacy).
The Thing from Fantastic Four
The Thing is a bit like the old man that yells at you for walking on his grass. You could say he’s a bit of a curmudgeon. Over the years, we’ve come to learn how much he dislikes mayonnaise, Johnny Storm, and basically everything else. Who could blame him? He was turned into a walking boulder.
But one thing is clear, the Thing has a soft spot for pizza. It’s his favorite food and he can be seen chowing down throughout many issues of the Fantastic Four.
Spider-Man
Alright, so this is a bit of a stretch, but bear with me. We love the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies (the first two anyway. . . we don’t talk about the third one). In Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker is trying to earn some money as a pizza delivery guy. The results of his efforts turn into one of the more awesome scenes from the movie. I could talk about the whole scene, but why not watch it?
It’s a great scene, but it’s not exactly from the comics. Raimi added to Spider-Man lore and we are totally cool with it because it gives our favorite food some love.
